Hispanic Heritage Month
is celebrated throughout the country from September 15 through October 15, we invite you
to come and celebrate with us.
Minnesota is home to a very large Hispanic
population who have contributed in so many ways to making Minnesota a great place to live,
work and raise a family.
Our honored guest and keynote speaker is, Author Sandra Benitez, 2004 recipient of the
National Hispanic Heritage Award Foundation Honoree for Literature. Sandras first
book, A Place Where the Sea Remembers, set in Mexico, won wonderful reviews and prizes ,
including the Barnes & Noble Discover Award and selection as a finalist for the Los
Angeles Times First Fiction Award.

Her second book, Bitter Grounds
was described by Author Isabel Allende as the kind of book that fills your dreams
for weeks. Poet and novelist Demetria Martinez has called it a major
contribution to the literature of America. A Place Where the Sea
Remembers was chosen for the Saint Paul Reads 2005-May 2006 all-city and
school book-selection.
This celebration offers us the opportunity to reflect on the contributions of the Hispanic
community and their rich culture.
Enjoy this special evening with leaders from the Hispanic community, and our Twin Cities
business and civic community. Our good friends at Saint Paul RiverCentre are proud to host
the Hispanic Heritage Celebration. We look forward to an exciting and rewarding evening.
